Shiway Wang

Research Biologist

Dr. Shiway Wang was appointed as the Executive Director for the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council (EVOSTC) in October 2021. Before that, she served as the Science Director since joining the EVOSTC in July 2017. As Executive Director, Shiway leads and manages all aspects of the Trustee Council's operations. Shiway continues to serve as Science Director, overseeing the scientific research, monitoring, and general restoration programs funded by the Trustee Council.

Prior to joining the Council and NOAA, Shiway's research activities focused on using biochemical methods (fatty acid, stable isotope, and compound-specific isotope analyses) to better understand marine food webs and trace dietary biomarkers through marine ecosystems, including the Arctic, Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. From 2010 - 2014, she was a researcher for the Gulf of Alaska Integrated Ecosystem Program and was part of the Middle Trophic Level component to understand the temporal and spatial variability in the structure of Gulf of Alaska forage fish communities. She holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from University of Colorado Boulder (1996), and a MS (2005) and PhD (2014) in Marine Biology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
