Applying State Space Models

State-space models are a relatively new approach to stock assessment that are being used internationally but have not been applied much in the US. The state-space modeling approach is particularly well suited to statistical testing of whether inclusion of a parameter in the model is justified. Application of state-space approaches to efficiently estimate stock assessment models within a management process requires advanced statistical techniques and computing power that are now readily available.
