Seminar: Fisheries in a New Era of Offshore Wind Development
Northeast Fisheries Science Center's Science and Research Director Dr. Jon Hare and Acting Chief of Staff Andy Lipsky
About
This presentation is part of the Northeast Fisheries Science Center's seminar series.
Offshore wind energy development is proceeding rapidly on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf and will soon enter the construction phase in New England and the Mid-Atlantic. To date,15 commercial offshore wind leases are active on the Northwest Atlantic shelf from North Carolina to Massachusetts, and more lease areas are under consideration. Efforts are also underway to develop wind energy along the west coast of the U.S.
Hare and Lipsky will provide an overview of the development process and review the potential interactions with NOAA Fisheries' mission, including the potential impacts on our scientific enterprise. They will discuss the major challenges and opportunities for coexistence between sustainable fisheries and offshore renewable energy.
