World-class scientists and experts from NOAA Fisheries will be at your fingertips and in your earbuds at this year’s NOAA and Our Planet Day hosted by the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California.

“We are honored to work with the Aquarium of the Pacific and share our exciting work conserving and managing our coastal and marine resources with the public,” said Shannon Penna, NOAA Fisheries’ West Coast Region Commercial Fisheries Permits Coordinator and one of the presenters at the event.

This year’s free, annual event will be held virtually with sessions streaming online starting Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. PT. “Hosting NOAA and Our Planet Day is one of the many ways that we partner with NOAA to educate the public. We value the opportunity to connect people with the scientists who study marine life, and inspire them to get involved, take action and become ocean stewards,” said Emily Yam, Senior Manager of Education, Aquarium of the Pacific.

Topics will include:

  • Mighty salmon in the ocean
  • Giant sea bass and sea turtles in California
  • Recreational fishing tips and tricks
  • Resources for budding ocean stewards
  • So much more.

In addition, the winners of our annual NOAA Day Art Contest, with entries from Long Beach Unified School District middle school and high school students, will be announced.

“We are so happy to continue with our tradition of supporting the Aquarium of the Pacific at this annual event. Virtually we can reach even more people and now attendees can tune in wherever and whenever they want,” Penna explains.
