Each year, the NOAA Habitat Month digital photo contest recognizes photographers who capture beautiful and captivating images of coastal and ocean habitat. NOAA works to conserve habitat to support our nation’s fisheries, recover threatened and endangered species, and maintain the resilience of coastal ecosystems and communities. To celebrate Habitat Month and our 2019 theme, “Habitat Working for You,” we are looking for compelling photographs that highlight these important areas.
Photos can display scenery, wildlife, or hands-on activities in coastal or marine habitat. We will accept entries that incorporate habitat in the following categories:
- Coastal wetlands (including marshes, mangroves, etc.)
- Estuaries
- Rivers
- Underwater habitats (including oyster reefs, coral reefs, deep sea coral, grasses, kelp, etc.)
Our digital photo contest is open to photographers of all ages and experience levels, whether youth, amateur, or professional. NOAA employees and other government employees and affiliates (including contractors, fellows, and interns) are also eligible.
The contest starts on Monday, June 17, 2019, and the submission deadline is 11:59 PM EST on Monday, July 22, 2019. Entries submitted after the entry period will not be eligible.
Winners will be announced and showcased on the NOAA Fisheries website during the week of July 29, 2019.
