The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable recognized NOAA Fisheries’ Russell Dunn as the NOAA 2020 Legend award recipient. Russ is the National Policy Advisor for Recreational Fisheries and has spearheaded numerous successful projects with the marine recreational fishing community. Congratulations, Russ, on this well-deserved recognition!
Recently, Russ looked back on his 10 years as the National Policy Advisor for Recreational Fisheries and the many changes that have occurred during his tenure. He has built a trusting partnership with the recreational fishing community and the agency through:
- Multiple recreational fishing national summits
- 2019 Memorandum of Agreement with industry and state partners
- 2020 Recreational Fishing Photo Contest
These are just a few recent examples of Russ’ dedication to engaging with and supporting the saltwater recreational fishing community. Russ also supports habitat conservation work and serves on the Marine Recreational Information Program’s Executive Steering Committee which helps provide recreational data that supports fishery management.

Outdoor Recreation Roundtable works to promote the growth of the outdoor recreation economy and outdoor recreation activities. Since 1991, Legends Awards have honored employees from federal agencies that manage outdoor recreation on public lands and waters. It recognizes outstanding work to improve outdoor recreation experiences and opportunities for the American people.
