To improve fish passage, Cape Fear River Watch and partners have made a series of upgrades to a fishway originally designed to mimic natural river habitat.
The Pamunkey Indian Tribe received a NOAA Species Recovery grant in 2018 to assess the current number of Atlantic sturgeon spawning populations and expand the ecological knowledge and stewardship of the Pamunkey and Mattaponi Rivers.
NOAA and partners’ work to restore North Carolina’s Cape Fear River will provide cleaner water and healthier habitat for migratory fish, while in turn supporting local communities and businesses.
