NOAA Fisheries formally initiated this Status Review on March 29, 2006. After reviewing the information, NOAA Fisheries determined the petition to list Cook Inlet belugas under the Endangered Species Act may be warranted.

On August 23, 2004, the Southwest and Northwest Regions requested that the Southwest and Northwest Fisheries Science Centers conduct an update of the Status Review for North American Green Sturgeon (Acipenser medirostris) (Adams et al. 2002).
The green sturgeon, Acipenser medirostris, is the most widely distributed member of the sturgeon family Acipenseridae. Like all sturgeons, green sturgeon are anadromous, but are also the most marine oriented of the sturgeons.
