Marine Mammal Ecology in the Pacific Northwest

We study Southern Resident killer whales and other marine mammals in the Pacific Northwest.

A black and white Southern Resident killer whale leaping out of the water. The fin of another whale is visible and a boat and mountains are in the background.

What We Do

We conduct research on Southern Resident killer whales, and other marine mammals in the Pacific Northwest. We focus on habitat and foraging ecology, marine mammal physiology and behavior, and marine mammal acoustics. Our interdisciplinary team works with researchers in myriad fields both at NOAA and other institutions. Our science helps aid the conservation and recovery of these marine species.
