Development of a new Mitigation PolicyNOAA is developing a Mitigation Policy to address mitigation issues encountered throughout the U.S. as well as mitigation issues unique or of particular importance in coastal areas. It is intended that a NOAA Mitigation Policy will serve as an umbrella policy under which we may choose to develop program-specific guidance at a later time. Goal is to get MAFAC input on the scope of issues of interest to stakeholders. |

A primary focus of this meeting is to discuss the MAFAC recommendations to the incoming Administration and opportunities for MAFAC engagement on some of the topics raised, as well as to advance MAFAC’s work on coastal resiliency. Subcommittee sessions are open to all members; members should plan on selecting and attending the sessions that align with their interests or expertise.
MEETING ACTIONS AND OUTCOMES
Decisions will be made on the following:
- Resilience Task 6 white paper Examples of Fisheries Management Framework Actions and Emergency Actions that allow a more nimble response to changes in fisheries.
Informational Briefings and Updates:
- Budget outlook and Transition
- Science update: MRIP update, next generation stock assessment, Climate Regional Action Plans, etc.
- NMFS engagement on trade issues
- Aquaculture Strategic Plan implementation
