Caribbean Queen Conch Fishery Management Plan
About
The Queen Conch Fishery Management Plan (FMP) of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands manages harvest of queen conch from the U.S. Caribbean federal waters. However, harvest in federal waters is limited to an area off St. Croix, which includes Lang Bank.
The Caribbean Fishery Management Council is in the process of transitioning management of federal fisheries in the U.S. Caribbean from the four current Caribbean-wide, species-based FMPs to three island-based, multi-species FMPs. Once effective, the new FMPs will include all fishery management measures presently included in the Reef Fish, Spiny Lobster, Queen Conch, and Coral FMPs that are applicable to the management area for each island or island group.
Species managed: Caribbean queen conch (Strombus gigas)
