In the northeast, new stock assessments of summer flounder and striped bass are ready for use by fishery managers in the region. Both are “benchmarks,” which are the most complex and thorough form of assessment.
The Northeast Fisheries Science Center’s 2018 Fall Bottom Trawl Survey aboard the NOAA Ship Henry B. Bigelow has been completed. The survey began on September 4 as scheduled and ended on November 13, finishing 83 percent of planned stations.

The plan is designed to complement other strategic guidance efforts to accomplish NOAA Fisheries’ mission of sustainable fisheries through science-based resource conservation and management.
