Field Notes: Partnering to Protect Monk Seals and Sea Turtles in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands

The NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette is departing on May 15th for a 27-day research expedition throughout the Hawaiian Islands to support research and recovery of the endangered Hawaiian monk seal and threatened green sea turtle. We will follow their progress and provide updates in these notes from the field.

Spring Survey to Study Fish Eggs and Larvae in the Gulf of Alaska

Ichthyoplankton are fish eggs and larvae that are found mainly in the upper 200 meters of the water column. During this survey, that is occurring in the region between the Shumagin Islands and Shelikof Strait, we will assess the abundance of a variety of species of Alaskan fish, but especially larval walleye pollock.
